Gas furnace is a common and crucial part of your home heating and air conditioning system. Since the most probable options for heating is heat pumps and Gas Furnaces, one way or another, knowing the ins and out of your gas system will take you far. So, to help you understand the heating process, I decided to break down the components of a gas furnace and explain in layman’s terms.

Components of a gas furnace –

Components of A Gas Furnace Their Functions

1.      Variable Speed Blower

The name explains it all. Basically, this is the blower that decides how the airflow should be. Want to increase the speed, you can. Want to decrease the fan speed, well, you can do that as well. In a sense, this is the controller of your gas furnace.

2.      Blower motor

The basic concept of a gas furnace is heating the air. But the total process of providing heated air throughout your home is much more than just heating the air. It also has to pass and distribute the air in your home. This part is called the cycling part. This is done by using a blower motor. This blower motor ensures you get the heated air distributed in every corner of your house. The air ducts in your home help the blower motor with that.

3.      Air Filter

Air filter in the gas furnace is similar to one in any air conditioner. Their work is to filter the air that passes. This ensures you and your family who are breathing the air is healthy and only breathes clean and fresh air.

Fitting your furnace with an (E-Filter) electrostatic filter that is used to trap the unwanted particles. These Electrostatic filters have HEPA (high-efficiency particulate arresting) or electrical charge, which traps those particles. This is how the amount of dust in the air is reduced by these air filters.

4.      Heat Exchanger

This is where the main part of the heating process happens. This is where the air is heated. In short, the heat is exchanged to heat the air. Basically, it is the main part of a gas furnace.

5.      Ventilation pipes

While using the gas furnace, gas or vapor or excess heat is also produced. This excess vapor, gas and heat is dispersed through these ventilation pipes. That being said, these pipes are not something to take lightly.

6.      Zoning components

Lastly, the components for zoning is also a crucial part of your home HVAC System. Zoning helps you in three ways – (1) it helps keep the energy bills, (2) it helps to make the system more efficient and last but not least (3) it helps with the AC services & repair situations. So, you can understand why this is so important.

Bottom Line

Now that you know the components of a gas furnace, I’m sure this will be helpful in your Residential or Commercial HVAC repair situations. Here is the infographic to sum it up – Components of A Gas Furnace & Their Functions.
